Mount Si
Description of Hike courtesy of vtrail.com
At 7:15 this morning Dan Coppersmith and I started our climb of Mount Si.
The climb up was not bad at all. We stopped 4-5 times total. A couple were just to let my heart rate go down as it was staying around 160-161 for minutes. Other than that, it was a piece of cake.
We got to the top and stopped for 15-25 minutes, ate a couple power bars, drank some water, and talked for a while. Then we packed back up and started the climb back down the Mountain.
This is where the story gets interesting. Almost from the beginning of the way down, Dan commented that his knee and hip were hurting. I told him to let me know if he needed to stop because I felt good and might not think of stopping. Fate had other plans for me though. About half a mile into the hike down, my knees started to hurt a bit and by the 2 mile mark, my ankles were really in a lot of pain.
Pain or no pain, the only way off the mountain is to walk. So, Dan and I both feeling pain in our joints made out way to the end of the trail (it is 4 miles each way).
The funny thing is it took us about 2.5 hours to get to the top and 2.7 hours to climb back down. You would think that down hill would be faster, huh.
So, I have been off the mountain for three hours now or so and honestly,I am still a little sore but for the most part feel fine. It was just joint stress most likely and will not hurt tomorrow.
So, what does this mean? Looks like I will be hiking more mountains because I feel really great about this.
Here are some pictures from the mountain. I took more but unfortunately my digital camera was in macro mode and only long distance shots were in focus.
