First hike in months
Topographical Map of the trip generated with my GPS and DeLorme Topo USA
I love hiking and snowshoeing. I really have caught the bug for it and persue it as often as possible. In February of this year I went to the Emergency Room and had my gall bladder taken out. While performing this surgery, the doctor found that I had a hernia and fixed this as well. I healed badly from the surgery and was in constant pain for about 6 weeks. I was stuck on my but for that entire time. I had purchased a gym membership before the surgery but had been unable to use it due to the hernia.
Finally, June 1, I was over everything from the surgery. I can now play with the rest of the boys and girls out there. I am horribly out of shape and plan to start this hiking season small but build up to the same point I was last year. Today was my first hike.
Dan, Jill, and I drove to the trailhead of Little Si. This is a short hike to Mount Si's little sister. It has its strenuous parts but all in all it is rather flat and short.
Since the main lot was full, we found a new trailhead and took it instead. It was the path less traveled to be sure. The first part of the trail is a steep climb. I took this picture and this picture from that climb. Some of the new trail was really overgrown. Thanks to my GPS, we were able to make smart judgments on where to turn to meet the original trail and we were there in no time.
We took a thirty minute break at the top and it allowed me to snap some nice pictures:
We then decided to leave. With the trail from the GPS, we had no problem reverse navigating the new trail system and making it back to the car. About 100 yards from the car Jill took a spill on the trail and skinned up here knee. I was delighted in having the first chance to use my first-aid kit that I take on every hike. I cleaned up her boo boo and headed home.
The first hike is now behind us and it was fun for all but Jill. I doubt she will be coming with us again.
