2.2 miles of West Tiger 3 Trail
I have decided that one trip a week is too little hiking this year. I talked it over with Dan and Nuria and we are going to hike on Wednesday after work as well. Unfortunately, currently I have lab time until 6:00 on Wednesday's now so we decided to do a hike that is close to work.
Dan could not go this week as he had lab time after me. When I saw Nuria at work Wednesday morning I saw we was wearing a jeans skirt. When I asked her about the hike she said she was going boating instead (John and Nuria bought a boat a couple weeks before). She had forgotten that Dan could not go and when she realized I was hiking alone, she decided to go hiking instead. She made arrangements with John to bring her shorts at the trailhead. On our way out of the lab, Jeff Roberts asked if we all wanted to get together at Hooters at around 9:00. This seemed like enough time to summit West Tiger so we agreed and left for the trail head.
John could not make it to the trailhead to bring Nuria shorts, so she hiked up the mountain in a skirt. Suprisingly, Nuria was the only person on the trail in a skirt. She had no pack either, so she carried a water bottle only.
We arrived at the tailhead at roughly 6:30 and started the hike. Without the added weight of a pack, Nuria was going really fast. West Tiger 3 looks like a short little hike on paper, but it is quite steep. Most moutains have steep parts and relative flat parts, West Tiger 3 is just steep for miles. It was really kicking my butt.
We were unable to reach the summit because of the 9:00 plans. We turned around with 1.1 miles to the summit. It was a great place to turn around as we arrived at Hooters at 9:05.
We plan to go back and reach the summit next Wednesday. I am not sure if Nuria will wear the skirt again or if by wearing it, she has started a new hiking fashon trend. Who knows, I may have to buy a hiking kilt!
